Ever since I was little I have been making survival kits. They have recently morphed from compasses and ropes to more modern things; I decided to make a blog post about it so you can make one too. Whether you're going to Panera Bread, a boring airport, or an exotic jungle, you'll need to customize this kit to your survival needs! Need help? Let's get started! Backpacks First up, grab your favorite bag or backpack. Sometimes I use a little leather purse (which I can fit my camera in!), sometimes I carry around my "I Love My Library" little pack, sometimes a green backpack with a cupholder, other times my Ark Encounter backpack. Sometimes I will take my ginormous super-cool camera bag as well. (i'm still debating on what to take to Honduras this year! details coming later on that...) Whatever bag you choose has to be small enough to be comfortable to carry on all your exciting excursions, and large enough to carry necessary supplies. Make sure it is protective if you are carrying a camera or laptop.
Next.... Stationery Kit - for all your writing needs!Whenever I get a new idea for room decor, blog posts, videos, or stories, I just HAVE to write them down before I forget them! Sometimes I will carry around a little red notebook, other times a leather journal. I will also take my beautiful rosy spiral-bound journal to school sometimes. Whatever it is, make sure it is suited to your needs and is beautiful enough to make you LONG to write in it!
WHERE TO GET PENS and PENCILS: (for your journal) dollar store. walmart. target dollar section. get the bold black clicky pens. my fav. Pens and pencils and sharpies can also be found at a good price at Staples. Very rarely cheap, but it is possible!! Always keep a black sharpie around. You may need to use it to write your name on a cup or something. I actually took a black Sharpie to Mexico and people actually needed it! How handy! Be like me, be handy! ;) jk WHERE TO GET THANK-YOU CARDS: Always keep thank-you cards handy. It's important to leave sweet little notes or handwritten cards every once in a while; they are so special. I will write a blog post on that later and link it here. :) I get them at Michaels. ALWAYS keep them in stock! I get them every year at their 50% off Christmas sale - or rather, I ask Megan to get them for me. (for a present;)) Okay now that we have covered the top two important things. I want you to pause and take a deep breath. I am about to ask you a very, very important question. What are your top favorite snacks you couldn't live without? SnacksYou may chuckle. But this is actually in one of the top 3 important things you need, and I will not change my mind. too bad. I literally get so hungry at school sometimes that I started packing a survival snack pack in my survival backpack. And it SAVES my life. I also take snacks whenever I go on a hike, whether it's in Mexico or Red River Gorge or in my backyard. (hey! the back of my backyard actually has a trail. now stop laughing) MY FAVORITE SNACKS: crunchy NOT CHEWY Nature Valley honey oats and granola bars Aldi's penguin crackers that look like goldfish but they aren't cucumbers and cream cheese (I'm weird. But you should try it) trail mix (obviously cause you're going on a trail) blueberries jalepeno chips (don't know how to do the squiggle on here) cheezits (the aldi kind) popcorn cheese (like half the things on here are cheesy) cheese sticks walnuts (they're good for your brain) What do you like to eat? Water Bottle
A Little BibleI keep a little skinny Bible in my leather purse you saw earlier. It's really handy for when you go to Mexico! Also you never know when your phone will die. Camera
I carried around my DSLR in mexico, everywhere from markets to waterfalls to mountains. And it survived. I've also had it in a very dangerous school cafeteria ;) If you would like to also say some good points on why cameras are awesome, we can discuss below! Toothbrush & Toothpaste
Moist TowelettesAnyone who went on our Mexico trip last year could tell you these are not just for babies! These are handy for so many uses, whether for wiping off germs on a shopping cart or wiping your nasty face. And who knows, you may see a baby or two. ;) They also make specialty face wipes. Flashlight with GOOD BatteriesWhen I was in Mexico I discovered the folly of dollar store flashlights and batteries. Our electricity went out and our phones were dead. It was literally pitch black. So we hung my little dinky flashlight from the ceiling fan and turned it on. Sadly, it only lasted about fifteen minutes. I ended up taking a shower in the dark..with spiders...it was a great memory. So if you want to see the spiders or whatever around you, take some good batteries. Don't make the same mistake I did. Some Other Things You Might Need:A portable phone charger. It has saved me many a heartache. Earbuds for when you just have to listen to those lectures. Get them from the dollar store. Or get them from the annual library summer contest like I did;). Piano music. Often I am asked to play piano somewhere, like at someone's house or at my family reunion, but I haven't memorized anything! Don't fear of this happening to you! Take it with you! (this may not apply if you are just going to panera bread.) Hairbrush and bobby pins. They are lifesavers. I always make sure I keep these essentials in my backpack! Well, that's all for now! If I think of anything else you absolutely will need, I'll totally let you know! Now you know how to survive; isn't that exciting? Go make your survival kit today!
If you think of anything else to add, please comment down below! Thank you very much. Sincerely, Karissa, your crazy blogger person. Note: this is not sponsored. If you know someone who wants to sponsor me though, I really wouldn't mind.
