When You Have To Trust the Unseen. Because sometimes you can’t see the next step… “Just so you know, there’s still some death over there on the right hand side,” said my orchestra director, who had taken us college kids to the trip to the mountains. Where we were was more like a gorge, with the abundance of trees failing to hide the miniscule trails that held drop-offs - thousands of feet below. It was about a five mile hike up through the many sections of the woods, including lots of walking, jumping over streams or climbing rocks.
But honestly the hardest part wasn’t even the exercise, or the long trip there, or the hungriness we felt. It was the trust we had to have on this unexpected journey, when we had to practically scale a bare slab of rock up there, with our hands and measly no-grip tennis shoes. Rebelling - against the gravity of this world- and following the upward path of Jesus. We didn’t know how hard it would be to climb. We couldn’t see ahead, only step by step. Looking back, if we had known what we were going to go through, most of us wouldn’t have done it. We had to trust in our leader, Receiving- the strength to go on in this world- and clinging to Jesus. If we had stayed in one spot, we would have crumbled and fallen. We have to keep going. And sometimes, all you can do is say his name. Remembering- The awe of his wondrous world. And thanking Jesus. When you get to the top, don’t forget to sit down and breathe. To look and see how God helped you on that foothold, on that trial, and that temptation. I heard a quote one time that said, “The best view comes after the hardest climb.” I’ve never heard anything so true, that relates to the restlessness in my soul. Because if we never had trials, we’d never be as thankful to God for helping us go through them, and grow through the process. It is crazy how much we worry as we stress out through climbing the hills of life. It is almost unnecessary because you would get to the top anyway, you would still see the beautiful view, and it might take away any enjoyment during or after. With God we can always trust him, not to only lead us to the right path but to climb the right mountain. With God we can always have someone to talk to, always have a friend, and even though we can’t see him, we can trust in his unseen hand. And on the way there, we can actually see with our own eyes the beauty he makes. So while you’re climbing that mountain of homework or that trail of teary emotions always make sure to know he’s climbing it with you. Oh yeah, and enjoy the view on the way. “When you feel like worrying, try praying instead. Worrying only creates more stress, but prayer creates more peace. God is bigger than whatever is stressing you out.” Dave Willis
